Winter Winter Winter

For better or for worse I just felt like I'd emptied the bucket on that particular world for a little while, if not for good. It took me a little while to accept that after I finished Winter's Bone. I've been at this long enough now to know that about every three or four books I have an interior need to alter what I'm doing somewhat just to satisfy further urges as a writer. "I just placed one recently, and now I'm finishing this. "I'm writing short stories just now," he says. Two blocks from my house is a cemetery where many of my relatives are." That conversation was reported earlier in these pages. We first met in Kansas City when Ang Lee and company were shooting Ride with the Devil, which had been adapted from Woodrell's Woe to Live On. The occasion is something of a reunion for us. He has agreed to talk with mc about his book, Winter's Bone, whose film adaptation is currently racking up rave reviews, including the Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Festival. It's a fine spring day in April, and Daniel Woodrell is at home.
